What I don’t go into, is how important that visit to have the infamous rectal exam really is – and not only because of the possibility (and controversial benefit) of early diagnosis of prostate cancer, but because a lot more happens than that quick uncomfortable exam. A men’s general physical, or well health visit, is about prevention of health problems, early detection of potential “red flags” that could indicate the beginnings of a problem and early treatment for problems that may not be causing symptoms, but could lead to bigger problems if ignored. ED could be a symptom of atherosclerosis – clogging of the arteries – which could indicate an elevated risk of heart attack and a need to check cholesterol, blood pressure and blood sugar to see why ED is even a problem. Men who are normally very assertive can be very intimidated in a physician’s office and I encourage guys to be involved, assertive patients and seek out a doctor who treats them with respect and encourages them to ask questions and be proactive about their health. read more

Volunteers sought for senior programs (The Township Journal)- About: Weight Loss News

SUSSEX The Sussex County Department of Human Services, Division of Seniors Services, in collaboration with Skylands RSVP Volunteer Resource Center, is offering free training for volunteers interested in leading one or more of a variety of evidence-based health promotion programs funded under Title III of the Older Americans Act, as amended. Volunteers lead eight session (two hours each) workshops that offer practical strategies to reduce fear of falling, address safety issues, increase activity levels, and improve balance, flexibility, and strength through exercise. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Thursday, March 25 and Friday, March 26. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Monday, April 12 and Tuesday, April 13. Two-day leadership training for this program will take place on Tuesday, April 20 and Wednesday, April 21. Four-day leadership training for this program will take place May 20, 21, 27 and 28. read more
