Water workouts make cool sense in the hot summer, just as indoor workouts make practical and warm sense during a snowy winter. Denver Parks and Recreation has 16 outdoor pools and 11 indoor pools with exercise classes, ranging from beginning water aerobics and water walking to deep-water aerobics and water polo. Karen Newlon, who coordinates aquatics for outdoor pools in Denver, has taught many water aerobics classes, some in deep water where there is no bottom to touch. For the past nine months, he’s worked with Marla Emde of Emde Sports in Spokane, who specializes in training athletes for triathlons and other endurance events. It was a mortifying thought for Stone, a principal in SRM Development, the company behind Riverstone in Coeur d’Alene. Stone also has recruited 10 family members, friends and employees to do the Coeur d’Alene Triathlon with him later this summer. read more
