Australiaās Olympic 10m platform champion says he is targeting major improvements in his springboard diving over the next three years in a quest to be the first diver since Greg Louganis in 1988 to win Olympic gold in both disciplines at London in 2012. American Louganis is one of just three divers in Olympic history to win the 3m-10m double, he achieved it twice - in 1984 and 1988 - while Pete Desjardins (1928) and Albert White (1924) have also claimed divingās holy grail. Mitcham was bitterly disappointed with his 16th placing in the 3m springboard at Beijing last year, failing to reach the final, and wants to use Rome as the kick-start to his quest for a London double. However, Mitcham knows progress on the springboard will be slow as he must maintain his platform prowess and the two disciplines involve different training and body shapes. Platform divers benefit from being smaller to perform greater rotations and reduce splash, while springboard divers require size and strength to gain height off the boards. read more
